site-specific performance and video installation
In collaboration with Ash Périer.
Moulting is a site-specific performance and video installation. Rooted in research on hydrocarbon pollution, water becomes both material and collaborator.
Hydrocarbons are used across various industries, but they are also significant water pollutants. As hair can absorb hydrocarbons, Moulting centers around a filter made from human and non-human hair, brought into polluted waters. Over several choreographed sessions, water is collected using the hair filter, absorbing pollutants.
The performance is durational and unfolds across, and in relation to, different bodies of water—mainly lakes and rivers.
The actions are traced through a video installation, alongside jars of filtered water and a filtration system.
